Having a new baby is such a special time for the whole family. As a newborn photographer in St Albans, I believe it is important to capture memories right from birth, as they grow up far too quickly - blink and the time has passed. A newborn session is the perfect way to do this, capturing images and moments to treasure forever.
Between 7 and 14 days old is a popular time for a newborn session, however the best time is when everyone (especially Mum) is feeling comfortable with getting out of the house and visiting the studio - babies are never too old to create beautiful memories.
If you know you want a newborn session whilst pregnant, please do get in touch, the best time to confirm your session is around your 20 week scan. We can check availability and pencil you in for a suitable date - I only take on one newborn session per shooting day, to allow wriggle time for early or overdue babies.
My Newborn photography style is natural, modern and relaxed. I always go with a baby led approach to my sessions, so if baby needs feeding or changing during the session that's fine; the most important thing to me is that everyone is relaxed and happy. As a maternity photographer I design my sessions around you - they can be natural with a relaxed look, or they can have a stylised look or theme to suit your preference. I love to work with clients to create something unique and special to them, so if you have a particular idea in mind, I'd love to chat it through with you. Above all, I want to make you feel as comfortable as possible, to create some beautiful images of you and your impending arrival.
These sessions can include just Mum, Mum and Dad, or adding in older siblings as well.
For my maternity photography in St Albans, sessions are best to book for around the 28-30 week stage of pregnancy, this is the best time to capture bump without being too close to the end of your journey when baby could make an appearance at any moment!
I love photographing toddlers and children in family sessions - they have so much personality! These images are much more active, capturing smiles, laughs and generally just having fun! In these sessions, I will start by chatting to the little one, making them feel comfortable in their surrounding, shooting the odd random image to get them used to the flash lights, and then once they're truly at ease, will play games, add props and toys and maybe even a bit of music and dancing to get them up and going!
Older baby sessions (including my sitter sessions) are designed to capture those important milestones such as holding their heads up, sitting up, crawling/toddling. It is never too late to capture images of your baby - if you didn't capture images in the first few weeks, please don't worry - they're still tiny at a couple of months old and can produce some gorgeous images of smiles at this age too! Sessions for older children can be to celebrate a birthday, a special occassion, or just to have some updated photos of your little ones as they grow.
At my photography studio in St Albans, I welcome parents into the photos with their baby and children - so often, they are the ones taking photos of their children at home and miss out on being in those memories!

My Cake Smash photo sessions all take place in my St Albans studio. I begin with shots of baby in their cute outfits on the decorated set before any mess is made. Once I've captured these, we set the cake down in front of them and let them go for it! Some children get stuck right in, others need a little more encouragement which is totally normal - however your baby reacts on the day, with a little gentle persuasion, we always get some beautiful shots.
If you've chosen to add the splash option to your session, a warm tin bath filled with bubbles and rubber ducks is placed in the middle of the messy set, ready for little one to have a splash about, also getting a bit cleaned up in the process!
In order to have your images with you in time for little one's birthday, I recommend booking your session to take place two weeks before the big day, to ensure I can get your images back to you and ready to use. So if you know you want this fabulous shoot already, get in touch, don't delay!
